Customer experience is built in small moments.
Salesforce now puts it at nearly 90%: customers say the experience a company provides matters as much as what it sells.
That should not surprise any owner.
People remember whether you replied quickly, did what you said, explained the delay, fixed the problem and made them feel safe in their decision.
Sometimes one clear email at the right moment can shape the customer's view of the work as much as the work itself.
That's what drives repeat business, referrals and trust.
Where's the gap? A lot of small businesses focus hard on doing the work, and less on how the work feels to the customer.
This week, pick one customer journey: enquiry, quote, delivery or after-sales.
Walk it from the customer's side. Where are they unsure? Where are they waiting? Where aren't they told enough?
Fix the weakest moment first.
None of this needs a big budget. It needs attention.
That feeling is what customers remember, and what they tell others about.
Improve the small moments and you become easier to trust, easier to recommend and harder to leave.
Customer experience doesn't need to be complicated.
Start with the basics. Are we clear? Are we responsive? Are we reliable? Do customers know what happens next? Are problems handled well?
A quick call to set expectations, or a heads-up when something slips, can often do more than any loyalty scheme.
Get those basics right and the fancier stuff matters far less.
Take this to your next team meeting: which part of the customer journey creates the most uncertainty right now?
